WHAT SALCROZINE 500 mg SUPPOSITORIES IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR?

SALCROZINE 500 mg suppositories contains mesalazine (also known as 5-aminosalicylic acid), which belongs to a group of drugs called intestinal anti-inflammatory agents. SALCROZINE 500 mg suppositories acts against  inflammation  caused by inflammatory  bowel disease (ulcerative  colitis  and Crohn’s disease).

HOW TO USE

Carefully follow the instructions for administering SALCROZINE provided by your doctor regarding how and when you must insert the suppositories; otherwise you may not fully benefit from their effects. Check again with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. Your doctor will tell you how long you need to take SALCROZINE 500 mg suppositories. Do not stop your treatment, even though you may feel better, as your symptoms may appear again if you stop your treatment too early.

Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully regarding how to use this medicine, during both acute inflammatory stages and maintenance treatment.

Unless your doctor specifies otherwise, recommended doses are as follows:

– A maximum of three 500 mg suppositories per day, administered in the morning, at midday and a third before going to bed, by rectal route.

Use in children and adolescents

Administration of Salcrozine suppositories is not recommended in children and adolescents under the age of 18 years due to the lack of safety and efficacy data.

Do not administer to children under 5 years of age.

Use in elderly patients

Salcrozine should be used with caution in elderly patients and its use should always be limited to patients with normal renal function.

Salcrozine comes in the form of white-greyish to slightly reddish-violet torpedo-shaped suppositories.
